The first season of the innovative Global Chess League kicked off on Thursday in Dubai. Two matches took place, and both had decisive results. The upGrad Mumba Masters beat the Triveni Continental Kings thanks to Alexander Grischuk’s win with black on board 2 — according to the regular scoring system the match would have been tied, given Wei Yi’s win (for the Kings) on boar 4, but a win with black is granted extra points in this event. Later on, the Ganges Grandmasters beat the Chingari Gulf Titans, as Vishy Anand and Hou Yifan both scored wins for the early leaders.
