Liverpool – City of Chess

Not only does Liverpool have a great musical history, it also has a great chess history. Its chess club was founded in 1837, and one of its early luminaries was Amos Burn. The city is now hosting the British Championships (31 August–10 September), a major chess festival featuring the best players and greatest British talent. | Photos: English Chess Federation
