US Championships: Niemann and Caruana join So in the lead

The fifth round of the US Championships in Saint Louis brought decisive results and a reshuffling of the standings in both sections. In the open, Hans Niemann ended Abhimanyu Mishra’s remarkable 71-game unbeaten streak to join Wesley So and Fabiano Caruana in the lead, while in the women’s championship, Carissa Yip defeated former sole leader Anna Sargsyan, allowing Alice Lee to join the lead.
